Is it free? Yes, everything is free in the basic plan.
Proton offers an email service, a calendar, a file storage space (cloud), and a VPN, all end-to-end encrypted, easy to use,
and designed on one principle: your data, your rules. Your privacy is protected by strong encryption, open source code, and
Swiss data protection laws.
Proton AG is a Swiss technology company that provides online services focused on privacy. It was founded in 2014 by scientists
who met at CERN and created Proton Mail. Proton's headquarters is located in Geneva, Switzerland.
Why Switzerland?
➛ Analysis of Swiss laws on privacy protection
ProtonMail is a secure email service that is free to register and use. Send private emails securely, without fear that others
besides your contacts can read their content. Proton Mail is a privacy-focused email service that uses end-to-end encryption
and zero-access encryption to secure your communications. These features protect you against data leaks and ensure that no one
can access your inbox, not even Proton. Your messages can only be read by you. License: Open-source software -
Operating system: Android, Online service, iOS iPhone / iPad
You can also use the password-protected email feature to quickly send end-to-end encrypted emails to any email address, not
just Proton Mail accounts.
➛ What is end-to-end encryption?
How does it work?
When creating your email account, you'll appreciate that you don't have to provide your identity or even your mobile
number... Guaranteed anonymity. For two-factor authentication/login, you can set a second password to enter. You can also
provide a backup email address and set a long recovery phrase for your proton email account, as well as send an encrypted
security file to remind you of your login credentials in case of need or password loss...
Other email services require you to provide your first name, last name, date of birth, mobile numbers... None of that with
ProtonMail. Everyone deserves respect for their privacy, which is why Proton Mail is available for free.
You can also check your email on Tor.
Access all Proton services with the Tor anonymity network. Proton has an official onion site for Tor users.

What is Tor? Tor is a free and open-source software that allows for anonymous communication. When you connect to the Internet via
Tor, your internet connection is routed through a voluntary global network of relays that conceal your location and activity from
anyone trying to monitor you.

Proton offers the French email anonymization solution SimpleLogin.
SimpleLogin is a solution to make your email correspondence anonymous, enhancing the privacy of ProtonMail users.
It's no surprise that many companies monetize their data by selling, for example, their customers' email addresses. It is not
uncommon, after signing up for an online service or newsletter, to receive numerous marketing emails. To avoid having your
inbox filled with unwanted emails, the infamous spam, it is possible to use an email alias. The principle is quite simple:
create a personalized email address for a specific service, to which correspondence will be forwarded to your inbox. This way,
you never reveal your actual email address, as it is protected by the alias. Therefore, if a service you are registered with
is hacked or sells your email to advertisers, you can deactivate this email alias to protect your inbox. There are many
solutions for creating email aliases, such as nBox, Mozilla Firefox Relay, or SimpleLogin. It is this last solution that
caught the eye of the Swiss company Proton, the creator of ProtonMail and ProtonVPN, which aims to promote a more
privacy-respecting Internet.
SimpleLogin will soon be integrated into ProtonMail. Behind SimpleLogin is a Parisian startup that deploys an open-source
solution hosted in Europe. These arguments have appealed to Swiss entrepreneurs who decided to acquire the French company in
order to quickly offer a new email anonymization service to their clients. Indeed, while it is already possible to create
email aliases with ProtonMail by adding a suffix "+" and the name of the service
(for example, name.user+name.newsletter@protonmail.com), it is relatively easy to discover a user's real email address.
SimpleLogin goes further and offers the creation of a completely different email address. There is no way for third parties
to obtain the real email address from an alias, which truly protects your actual email. SimpleLogin is a browser extension,
but it also has an online service and a mobile app that allows you to reply via your alias without ever using your personal
email. Real test: encrypt-80.ff@aleeas.com
It is easy to filter unwanted emails with SimpleLogin.
